Sue Weston
Chair
I joined Home-Start North and West Gloucestershire in 2021 when I trained to become a volunteer whilst still working at Mars Petcare. I retired from Mars in April 2022 and have since supported four families in North and West Glos as a dedicated volunteer. I was invited to join the Trustee board in 2022 and took up the role of Chair in June 2023.
I have had a connection with Home-Start since the 1980s, and it was always been my goal to volunteer for the charity once I retired. I am passionate about the positive development of children, both inside and outside of the home, and I know first-hand that raising children is one of the toughest yet most rewarding jobs there is. I am a proud mum of two grown-up children and a doting grandmother, I also helps care for my grandson and support my daughter along the way.
When it comes to relaxation, I love taking long walks with my cocker spaniel, Pickle, practicing yoga, and spending time in my garden.
Sue Young
Vice Chairman
Following retirement I was looking for something meaningful to spend time supporting.
After a discussion with a family member (who was receiving support) I found out about Homestart and discovered this was exactly the type of charity that I would be keen to help.
I completed my volunteer training last year and to date I have supported one family and am now starting with my second.
Prior to retirement, I had a career spanning over 40 years working mainly for large global financial services companies in a variety of different roles ranging from finance, strategy, IT and Change & Project Management. Also, for many years I have sat on the internal charity committee which involved going through grant requests and visiting charities in and around Gloucestershire .
I have also been a school governor at a local primary school and have 3 grown up children.

Friends and family already volunteer with Home-Start, and I’ve been really impressed by the training and support provided. The organisation supports people at a critical time, creating a positive effect with a lifelong impact. Having lived in Gloucestershire for over 30 years, I’m delighted to support such an important organisation.
I work in financial services and am a mum of four grown-up children.
