Baking has become a popular national past time in recent months. Many of us have turned our hand to making bread, cakes and biscuits in attempts to alleviate lockdown boredom, entertain the children and enjoy a few delicious treats whilst so many of our other favourite activities have been put on hold.

Baking is also hugely advantageous for improving mental health, with benefits that include increased mindfulness, satisfaction and sensory pleasure.

One of our very talented group coordinators, Jen, has launched our very own bake off competition, open to anyone who has given our Facebook page a like. Stage 1 is biscuits with the theme of ‘rainbow and colour’. Stage 2 is cakes, and closing dates for entries are Monday 6th July for biscuits and Friday 10th July for cakes. There are prizes in every stage and we can’t wait to see your creations. Remember, you don’t need to have any previous baking experience. We just want you to have a go and have fun. Photos of your creations can either be emailed to jbeetson@homestartnwglos.org.uk or you could post a picture in the comments of our bake off posts on our Facebook page. Lots of easy recipes can be found here https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/kids-baking.
